The Greatest Compliment as a Divorce Mediator
All things take time — including divorce mediation.
During the mediation process, I tend to move things along at a pace during which we come to an agreement in a reasonable amount of time. Through it all, I am working to make sure both parties are heard and feel comfortable with the decisions we come to.
Just recently, I received one of the greatest compliments I could from a current divorce mediation client. In a recent case, both parties expressed that they felt the mediation process was extremely valuable to them, and they were not concerned about rushing forward. They seem to indicate that conversations they were having were very important — and also that they were conversations that they could not have without my assistance.
This is the greatest compliment I could have received as a divorce mediator.
Although it is not designed to be therapeutic, the divorce mediation process does allow for both parties to share their thoughts knowing they will not be interrupted or attacked by the other party. Why? Because I direct the conversation and facilitate in a way where people have a chance to communicate much more effectively.
When this couple shared with me that they were in no hurry to finish things up and they were finding the process very useful, it reinforced my belief that I am helping people during divorce mediation. I have said this many times. Having two attorneys fight out a divorce is not a peaceful way to reach a settlement agreement.
Nobody wants to find themselves in a divorce. But if it is necessary I strongly urge you to seek out divorce mediation as the best — and most peaceful — alternative.
