Laughter Amidst the Mediation Process
Laughter Amidst the Mediation Process
Divorce can come with tension, frustration, and unnecessary stress — but it doesn’t have to. With divorce mediation, many couples maintain mutual respect for one another, starting with holding onto their sense of humor.
At Peaceable Divorce, one of the most pleasant aspects of divorce mediation is working with couples who maintain that sense of humor. In my experience, most couples that choose divorce mediation are determined not to hurt one another, and they still have a basic level of respect for one another. Their marriage is ending, but they do not hate each other.
I consider it a very positive sign when couples still have the ability to laugh and even remain somewhat playful during divorce mediation. It shows respect, integrity, and kindness.
In many cases, I don’t know what happens to couples after we are completed with divorce mediation. But my hunch is that the couples that maintain a sense of humor and respect for one another remain friends even after the divorce. Even more, these are also the couples that express complete satisfaction with the marital settlement agreement that we complete together.
Laughter is the best medicine for a lot of things in life, and the same can be said for divorce mediation.
