Make time for yourself
Working on a parenting plan can be the most emotionally challenging part of mediation. Too often, I see one parent asking for most — or almost all — of the time with the children. I often wonder if parents think through the fact that they will need time to themselves after the marriage has ended.
If both parents are good parents, it’s usually not a good plan to keep the children away from their mother or father. When agreeing on a parenting plan, it is important to keep it as equitable as possible and to build in some time for yourself. Your marriage may be ending, but you do not want to count on the children to provide for all of your social needs.
